Water Spigot / Spicket / Outdoor Faucet Repair
How to Winterize Your Outdoor Faucet
Baikal® provides many outdoor plumbing services in Snohomish and King Counties, few of which are water spigot install, outdoor faucet repair, replace broken fixtures, move shut-off valves, and more. It is easy to miss a leaky outdoor faucet — out of sight, out of mind. However, you must realize that even the smallest leak can quickly turn into a big bill, so make sure to check your water spigot regularly for any leaks. Outdoor faucet leaks usually occur in two places – the handle and a spout. If you found a leak coming from the handle, try tightening the packing nut with the wrench. If that is not working or if the leak is coming from the spout you will have to take the faucet apart. Luckily, you can always rely on Baikal Services® to take care of many outdoor plumbing problems for you. Simply call (206) 799-3035 or fill out our online schedule service form and we will be there at no time.
An outdoor water faucet is vulnerable to the cold weather. As a homeowner, you must prepare your outside water spigot for the winter. In the winter time, water freezes and expands and takes up nearly 10% more space. If the pipe is already full of water when the temperature drops below freezing something got to give, and it is usually the pipe, the joints, the valves or maybe even all three.
With outdoor faucets, it’s important to remember to detach your garden hoses at the end of the season, close the inside shut-off valve(s) and drain the faucet fixture before it freezes. Here are few easy steps you can do to winterize your outdoor faucets:
1. Close the shut-off valve for the faucet
2. Disconnect your hoses
3. Drain the faucet
4. Insulate your pipes
